For August 2022, we’re releasing a new kind of Special Edition: An artist collaboration featuring 43 one-of-a-kind hand-decorated porcelain trays. The pieces, which are Serving Platters that come in two sizes, were each made by Jono and decorated in our studio by Gordon Hull. Jono and Gordon have been friends for many years, and Jono has had a collaboration in mind since he saw Gordon’s unique brushwork while visiting his house on Long Island. “I approach my work with a lot of energy and as much spontaneity as possible,” explains Gordon. “I let that dictate the choices I make. Each mark is definitive—there’s no going back. This makes everything a game of chance and raises the stakes to get it right with every stroke—or to find a way to fix what isn’t working.” This makes working with ceramics even more exciting. “Ceramics are interesting because, again, you can't erase,” says Gordon. “I love the whole Jono vibe—it's got this gorgeous, musical, earthy, considered minimalism. And it’s fabulous as a foundation for its intended purpose—to provide enjoyment and aesthetic beauty to its use.” Whether you decide to display your piece on a mantel or incorporate it into your next tablescape, you can rest assured that there will be nothing else out there quite like it.

Each piece is made of porcelain with an intentional heft that will ensure it lasts a lifetime. (They feature underglaze, a clear glaze, and are dishwasher-safe, too.) They are all stamped and numbered by the artists. Check out the all the platters here!

HANDMADE IN THE USA

Inside the Studio

Our dinnerware is hand-made at a light-filled studio in Union City, New Jersey, by a team of 16 artisans. The studio is also where we quality check and pack up dozens of orders per day, which are then sent out to restaurants like Lilia, Jean-Georges, and Felix Trattoria and to serious home cooks all over the country.

Our Story

When Jono started the company in 2004, he had a simple mission: to design unique dinnerware options for the hospitality industry. He started small, with one wheel and one kiln, and collaborated with chefs, taking risks and learning from his mistakes. Then and now, his priority is to work directly with our clients, responding quickly and thoughtfully to their needs in ways that larger manufacturers can’t, resulting in dinnerware with a personal feel that sets our clients’ restaurants and dining rooms apart.

Our Process

Each piece that Jono has designed has its own unique production process, which can entail as many as 15 individual steps, and use methods such as slip casting, jiggering, and good old-fashioned wheel throwing. Our studio is equipped with 10 kilns and 6 wheels and we begin each day with the thrill of opening our Blaauw kiln to discover the finished pieces we loaded in the night before.
